WHAT IS THE X-RAY FOR?

We use CR digital X-ray for a number of reasons. First we use it as a tool to confirm our working diagnosis from your examination. Second we use it to screen for any contraindications to adjusting such as severe osteoporosis, congenital malformations, fractures, or an underlying disease.  Finally, Chiropractic X-ray analysis assists us in determining how your spine is adapting to the bio-mechanical forces being applied to it, the position of the vertebrae as they relate to one another, and to guide our adjustment to ensure accuracy and specificity.
Notify your doctor if you are pregnant, undergoing radiation therapy, of if you have recently undergone X-ray imaging.

WHAT CAN I EXPECT DURING MY ADJUSTMENT?

The adjustment consists of the doctor positioning the patient for the appropriate procedure, isolating a specific vertebral segment, and applying a high speed/low force thrust to that segment.  During the adjustment you may experience a "popping" sound.  This is not snapping or cracking of the bone, but the release of gas from the joint, similar to when you open a can of soda.  The "pop" is not the end all be all of a successful adjustment.  The Doctor will re-assess the segment noting the restoration of normal motion, reduction of symptoms, and any change in the way you feel. Though incredibly rare, it is important to communicate to your doctor any adverse reactions you experience to the procedure.

WHAT CAN I EXPECT AFTER MY ADJUSTMENT?

After the adjustment you should experience a sensation of relief in the area.  Mild tenderness, redness, and swelling is common after the procedure and should subside within 2-48 hours.  Home care is an important step in the recovery process.  Stretching and strengthening exercises are prescribed along with icing and heating instructions to maximize results and speed recovery.  We believe the body has a natural "innate" ability to heal itself and taking care of yours is our top priority.
